I'd like to extend an official welcome to Maddie, our newest sales associate here at Red Sail. She's coming on board during an exciting time, as we near the 1 year anniversary of opening the storefront, and the approach of our *fingers crossed* very busy holiday season. In an effort to share the amazing collections at Red Sail, Maddie, Adele, and I will now be regularly posting our personal favorites from the shop. First up...
Maddie's Picks for 10/29/12
1. Curve Tall Tea Mug
For
the tea lovers out there, like myself, this is a great product! Both
functional and beautifully designed, this porcelain mug comes with an
extra-fine tea infuser and a lid that also functions as a drip dish. One
reason why I love this mug is that its shape allows you to fully wrap
both hands around it, feeling the heat of the tea inside... a wonderful
way to warm up in the fall and winter months! Available in a variety of
fun colors, my personal favorite is carrot - a warm orange. $22
2. Frog Hand Puppet
These
one of a kind hand puppets are the perfect holiday gift for the little
munchkin in your life. Designed and produced in Toronto by Cate & Levi, each puppet is
responsibly made from reclaimed wool and no two are the same. I
personally love the frog, whose playful demeanor is expressed through
its brightly colored mouth and tongue, making him the perfect pal for reading
your kiddo’s next bedtime story. $32
3. Square Link Necklace
Designed
and handmade in Brooklyn, New York, By Boe creates fun and elegant
jewelry. Using a mix of both new and vintage materials with 14-kt
gold-fill and sterling silver, the geometric shapes of their designs
offers a simple beauty to the ear or neck. I love connecting shapes
together, so I bought the Square Link Necklace, a delicate piece made up
of two small squares interlinked on a 14 K gold-filled chain. Simple and
elegant, this piece is bound to receive lots of compliments. $44

Fall colors at Red Sail
This fall I'm crazy over one of the color palettes we are featuring in the shop... Shitake (a grayish brown), chartreuse (almost to a bright olive green), warm white, and brushed gold. They look fabulous together and I can't get enough of this earthly, yet modern combination. It seem to look good in ever form, from the serving platters made by Bauer Pottery, to the cashmere scarves from Yarnz, to the Nell & Mary pillow covers, to the jewelry of 31 Bits and By Boe... I want it all. Add in a hint of natural beauty from the Lostine cutting boards with leather straps, and the wood trays from Roost, and wow, I think I might be keeping quite a few pieces from this collection!

A Best-Bet Accessory... Yarnz Scarves
Last week the Spring collection from Yarnz arrived, and the reaction from customers in the shop has been a resounding, "OOO.... I LOVE this!" These gorgeous scarves look amazing when worn wrapped, and are equally as beautiful when you open them up as a shawl, revealing the intricate designs Yarnz is famous for. I've had one of their ultra-soft cashmere/silk scarves for several years and I still get compliments on it every single time I wear it... who doesn't love that?!
Below are a few of my favorite designs (Nymphs, Woodcut Horses, and Pears), but you can shop the full selection in our Portland store, or here, in our online shop The Spring collection includes scarves that are 70% cashmere/30% silk, 50% cashmere/50% silk, and 100% linen, and range from $58 - $168. We only have two of each design so get one while you can!

Tangerine Tango
Tangerine Tango is Pantone's 2012 Color of the Year, and you can almost feel the heat and energy radiating from this bold orange-red... not a bad thing when it's February and raining nearly every day.

With that in mind I was super excited to have students from Portland's Art Institute use the color as inspiration for window display they designed for RED SAIL this week. The girls did a great job constructing a bold eye-catching window using asymmetrical dream catchers as a backdrop to RED SAIL accessories and home accents in the Tangerine Tango family.
